TrailBlaze Creative, (TBC) an independent marketing and communications firm, seeks a talented individual to assist in developing new and unique marketing journeys for our clients. While this job description is titled for a “Director of Marketing” position, you will actually be serving in this role for our clients. Many organizations, especially the new and small organizations with whom we work, lack the internal capacity for strategic guidance of marketing and communications activities. 

The TrailBlaze Marketing Director-in-ResidenceSM model provides the capacity needed, both strategic and tactical, to manage the regular needs of an organization. TrailBlaze appoints one person to serve as the Marketing Director for organizations. This Director attends internal team meetings, represents the organization to external stakeholders as appropriate, provides strategic marketing direction and planning, and prioritizes and manages the tactical needs of the organization. Augmenting the marketing capacity gap with our professional Marketing Director-in-ResidenceSM, organizations receive executive-level strategic guidance and the project management necessary to implement the strategy. Our professionals work to understand the needs of the brand and organization and craft a strategy to systematically address the needs of the organization.

So, you will be serving as a Marketing Director for several organizations. But, we are also a small firm, so we pitch in together on all kinds of projects. Our entire team has a strategic mindset, but we are also comfortable in website code, graphic design, and social media. We are agile, flexible, and work with passion to adopt any and all challenges for our clients as our own. We want the same from you!

 Additionally, this position will focus on developing internal protocols and strategies to ensure the work products that we are developing with clients meet diversity, equity, and inclusion needs for the communities and audiences in which we are communicating. This position will provide internal training to our team, but, ideally, would position themselves and our firm as leaders in the integration of DEI in marketing and communications practices. This is critical for our industry and we want to be leaders in this effort…with your leadership. We recognize this is a unique request and skillsets are innovating in this area. Demonstrate how you are qualified or could be qualified to serve in this role. Expectation is that this position will be 40% strategy development, 25% tactical implementation, 25% DEI engagement, 10% administrative.

This position will primarily telecommute (especially in the current environment), however some in-person meetings may occur throughout the Pittsburgh region. Our preference is to work with a candidate that is able to travel to these meetings in person. If you are not currently located in Pittsburgh, please address your intentions in your cover letter (e.g Are you willing/able to relocate? Do you feel you can accomplish the role remotely? Etc.). It is important that candidates have access to internet access and phone access. Since regular meetings with TrailBlaze leadership and clients is also expected, so access to periodic transportation is required. We would also be open to a contract-to-hire scenario if it makes sense for the candidate.
