“Just Be You” – Incredible Messaging within the Work of Intellectual and Developmental Disability Professionals

by | Jun 15, 2026

Last month, I had the incredible opportunity to attend The Lighthouse Cove Summit 2026 with my colleague, Erin. This event brought members of the intellectual and developmental disability (I/DD) profession together, igniting inspiring collaboration, allowing me to connect not only with team members of Lighthouse Cove, but many other TrailBlaze clients.

At the Summit, I/DD Professionals had the opportunity to engage with peers, learn from others, and strengthen their expertise within their fields. With individualized breakout sessions and inspiring keynote speakers, the event was filled with knowledge and creativity, inspiring growth in all aspects of their roles.

Among the many highlights, keynote speaker and award-winning country music artist Julia Neville’s speech struck home to us at TrailBlaze Creative. Neville shared with us her captivating backstory and “Just be You” mindset. Highlighting her struggles growing up in a household of abuse and insecurity, Neville’s speech left an empowering impression on us, signifying the importance of being yourself in times of adversity.

At TrailBlaze, some of our core values lie in community activation and leading with purpose. Resonating with “Just be You”, we recognize that embracing your true self, flaws included, is essential in accepting the community you belong to. This mindset served as a great reminder that no reason is too small to drive change and foster community. Neville’s story served as the perfect foundation for the conference, setting the framework for the rest of the day to be bound in the mindfulness of both community and purpose.

The event was a wonderful opportunity to connect with existing partners and strengthen relationships within and outside of our circle. It was particularly rewarding to see representatives from Total Homecare Solutions, Epic, ARC Voyagers, The Alpha Group and Lighthouse Cove sharing ideas, reinforcing the impact of the network we support.

Leaving this event, we are overwhelmed with gratitude for the community we have built at TrailBlaze Creative, and we are thrilled to see so many inspiring professionals come together to enhance their skills.
