The internet contributes to 3.7% of global carbon emissions…more than aviation.
The average website produces about 2 grams of CO2 every time someone visits a page.
Less brightness means that it takes less energy to power this site on your screen. This reduces the carbon footprint of our site.
To champion a sustainable future, we must work to engage in greener alternatives when we can.
As we strive to be better stewards of our planet, many companies and organizations are looking for ways to reduce carbon emissions. Websites are part of this equation. Every time you open a website in a browser, there are many processes along the way that use power and energy to present you with that website. The more code and data-heavy that a website is, the brighter a website’s colors are, the longer it takes for a website to load, etc.—all contribute to the carbon footprint of a website.
TrailBlaze has partnered with the UK-based Eco-Friendly Web Alliance to provide sustainable website development and certification to qualifying websites. In this process, we consider sustainable website design as part of the design process, and work to reduce its carbon footprint through optimized coding and development. At the end of the web development process, we submit the site for certification acceptance. Once a website is certified, a digital badge of recognition can be added to the site to demonstrate lower carbon footprint standards.
